Our AI policy

AI has no place in art.

That's our firm belief. Wayscript's automated tools exist to help you write, keep your world consistent, and prove the work is yours. Where a tool can put words on the page (like the optional Smart Compose autocomplete) it is off by default, entirely your choice, and honestly recorded on the certification ladder. A machine's words are never passed off as your own.

The written word is sacred

We grew up on the likes of Tolkien, Terry Brooks, James Herbert and more: stories written, word by word, by human hands. That authenticity is the whole point, and it's not something a machine can manufacture.

“We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.”

— Ernest Hemingway

To err is human, and the most beautiful writing always starts from a messy draft poured onto a page, refined over time by chiselling away at it with our minds.

What our tools are for

Assistance around the writing — never instead of it

Everything we automate is in service of the human doing the writing.

💬

First-pass feedback

Constructive, diagnostic notes on your own writing (pacing, consistency, structure) so you can revise with intent. Our Reviewer critiques; it never drafts.

🛡️

Accountability

Our tools flag writing that reads as machine-generated, and passages that echo well-known published text — estimates to prompt an honest look, not a final verdict. Your authorship certification then records, honestly, exactly how a book was made.

🔎

Research

Look things up, gather references, and keep your facts straight: support around the writing, never a replacement for it.

Smart Compose — assistance, disclosed

One feature deserves naming outright, because it can put words on your page: Smart Compose, an optional inline autocomplete on paid plans. It is off by default and opt-in; the pen moves only when you switch it on, and every suggestion is yours to accept or discard. You remain the author of your work, and you attest to how it was made: accepting generated text is recorded, honestly, in your authorship certification. Keep it off and write unaided, and the ladder says so; use it, and the ladder says that too. That is the deal: assistance is allowed, disguise is not.

To be precise: your manuscript analytics (the charts, reports, and style checks) are computed from your own text with no AI at all. AI is only ever used where you opt in: the Manuscript Reviewer, feedback you explicitly request, research assistance, and, if you switch it on, Smart Compose autocomplete.

What we'll never do

We will never ghostwrite your story, and we will never let a machine's words pass as your own. The Reviewer only ever critiques; it does not draft. If you choose to accept generated text, through Smart Compose or by bringing it in from elsewhere, your certification records it plainly. Onyx certification means not a single word came from a machine, and we built the whole system to make that provable.

Tools should give a writer leverage, not take the pen out of their hand. We believe in providing assistance in that spirit, and holding the output accountable.
